On the imminent print version of "GETTING ETHIOPIA DEAD WRONG"

Fano insurgency to be covered

So when is “GETTING ETHIOPIA DEAD WRONG” out in the final print version? I planned for it to be ready several months ago, but then I kept adding updates, details, footnotes and illustrations, plus a preface and a timeline, making it some 50% longer than the 50,000-word online version published on September 3, 2023.

Then it occurred to me that now is the time to address the topic of the day! Although the main focus will remain on the war with the TPLF, the role of the Amhara militia known as Fano shall be given much more attention throughout the various sections, and especially in the newly inserted end, “Part 5: A WARNING FOR THE NEXT WAR”. This will discuss Fano’s insurgency in Amhara Region since April 2023 in the wider context of ethnonationalism in Ethiopia. In terms of history and ideology, Fano differs markedly from other ethnically-exclusive rebel groups in Ethiopia, such as the OLA and TPLF. Yet Fano has taken leaf after leaf from the TPLF’s propaganda playbook. Small wonder, because it works. Thus, I shall provide stark examples of the international community once again getting Ethiopia dead wrong.

Seeking not to get anything too wrong myself, however, I will need more time for my research. So please, be patient for a few months. I promise the end result will be both nuanced and hard-hitting.

Yes, the print version of the book will be on the pricey side. But then again: 1) It will be a beautiful book in colors.  2) It will present a link to download a pdf-file of the book in its entirety, which you may share freely, plus anyone can just ask me for that link by email. 3) My key points about the Fano insurgency will eventually come out in other paywall-free online publications.

Meanwhile, I am about to serve up a little treat that will be annexed to the print version of the book. What it reveals about big media’s disdain for truth and Ethiopian lives is plainly appalling. But, at the same time, the format of “swindling the swindler” is, if I may put it very modestly, not unamusing. The title is: “GOING UNDERCOVER TO INTERVIEW CARA ANNA FROM ASSOCIATED PRESS.”  Watch this space!
